Helping Children understand their bodies
Occupational Therapy at this young age is highly effective. Sessions are largely play based with the therapist using specialised fine motor activities, whole body movements, and strengthening activities to help them achieve their goals . This style of therapy promotes play and play is how children learn, it enables the children to continue using what they learn in therapy in their every day lives as the context is the same.
A big part of sessions with children at this age also involves you, the parent. You will be involved in setting goals for your child and will work with the therapist to develop easy and effective strategies to help your child at home.
Check out the developmental checklist on the 0-3 bubs and toddlers page for skills that your child should be developing at this age.
